Ceramics, digital images and installations

I use lace as a metaphor in my work because lace, being familiar and accessible, becomes symbolic of the genome, fertility, sexuality, and the social reality of a mother today. Lace presents us with a duality; it reveals while it conceals, it decorates while it restrains.

Gaëtanne Sylvester graduated with a BFA from University of Waterloo in 1990. Since moving to Winnipeg, she has pursued research into the beginning of life, fertility, femininity, genetics, in her chosen media, clay, printmaking and installation, exhibiting locally, nationally and abroad.
She is member of MAWA, MCC, MPA, MDA, CARFAC MB.
